Religious Diversity
Reigious Diversity sign. assignment
Reflection
1. In what ways, have you become more aware of your religious landscape?
Before returning to Utah, I spent two years living in Kansas where I was able to observe a numerous amount of different religions. That was the first moment for me of being aware of the religious landscape that we have here in the United States. As I return to Utah, I was able to be aware of a small amount of different religions around the area but in taking the course it helped to be more aware of our religious landscape. There was one assignment in particularly that helped in order to witness of how religious diverse we were. That assignment was the religious landscape project. As we research of a specific area in the Salt Lake Valley, it was astonishing to see that there is a great amount of different religious other than the Mormon church.

2. Refer back to how you answered the question “Do you believe America is a Christian nation?” Has your response changed? Explain.
In my first response to the question, I stated that I do not believe that America is a Christian nation. I still stand to what I have responded previously that we are not a Christian nation. The reason behind this is because I believe that in being diverse or different from one another is a good thing to have then being the same. There is a statement from the book, “America and the challenges of religious diversity” by Robert Wuthnow, that I truly admire. He shares that, ““greater diversity enriches our options and thereby enhances our freedom to choose. Having variety in our lives gives us opportunities to learn about the world and to gain a better understanding of ourselves.” This is why we are not a Christian nation because our ‘freedom to choose.”
