The day before my family and I visited the Salt Lake City area to remember those who contribute in the necrotic infection of the MV’s (zombies) that happened 10 years ago. The next day we got home. I was in my office looking through some old stuff.

 Yes, we worked together to plan out how                                                                                                                                              we were going to communicate with the people at                                                                                                                           the Salt Lake Community College Student Life                                                                                                                                 and Leadership center in order to stay safe from                                                                                                                            the MVs

   

 

 

What are MVs?

 Do you remember the images that were shown at the memorial of the individuals that had ripped up clothes and people were running away from them? Those are what we called MVs. They were the ones that hit downtown Salt Lake City 10 years ago.  

 

How did you get selected to be on the task force team?

 

            Well… this was not the only time have I heard about the MVs before. The first time that I have heard about them when I was about 17 years old. On January 7, 2012, I was returning home from school that day and your grandmother had called me. At the time, she was crying and it was hard to figure out what she trying to say. Eventually, I’d figure out that she was telling me some sort of creatures had attacked people in California. She also mentions she was trying to get in contact with her family but there was no answer from any of them. I rushed to the television to view what type of “creatures” were attacking the people. The news broadcast was covering from the air and on foot of the MVs attacking people. I could not believe my own eyes of what was occurring. I said a prayer that day and hope that they were all okay. I knew if we didn’t hear from that we will able to see them again in the next life.

 

Whatever happened to grandma’s family?

            We… umm… eventually, discover they were dead. The MVs outbreak in California severely got to everyone there were only a handful of survivors. It lasted for a year but no one was prepared at all for this.

 

What happened to the MVs?

            They eventually spread to other pacific coastal states but they either were killed off by survivors or they died off on their own because of their limitation lifespan. About five years later, Governor Herbert created different groups of a task force team to study the outbreak and create plans on how to survive if there was ever an outbreak in Salt Lake City. When I heard of the task force, I jump the gun and requested to be selected in a group. I wanted to find out how to keep my family safe and too not fall in the same fate as your grandmother’s family. The day I found out they died was too emotional for me… knowing that they were gone… all my tias, tios, and cousins were too much to handle.

 

                                                                                                               How did the 2017 outbreak occur?

                                                                                                               To this day, we are not entirely sure what could have                                                                                                                           caused the outbreak. It could have happened by not all the                                                                                                                 zombies were killed during the 2012 outbreak or there                                                                                                                       was a different cause that started it. The only thing we                                                                                                                       knew the MVs were coming from Idaho and were moving                                                                                                                   to the south. The growth of the zombies was increasing                                                                                                                     as they hit Salt Lake. Good thing Jason came up with the                                                                                                                   idea to set firearms on the I-80 freeway to shot those                                                                                                                         sons of the guns. We asked for individuals that had                                                                                                                             experiences with weaponry to come help the police force.                                                                                                                 That day we lost Brian….      

 

Which one is Brian?

            He is the one next to Richard. He was a great guy… he did a lot to save the people. Not only Brian but many other people as well…

 

How did your task force team do during the outbreak?

            Although… we lost people that day. We had success in keeping many people alive. Like I said before our team was in charge of communicating to the SLCC (Salt Lake Community College) Student life and Leadership. We created a webpage that was sent out to everyone… kind of like an amber alert but by using a system called Canvas. On our webpage, we had detail plans on how to save everyone in the area.

            Our team did whatever it took to save the people.  Our plan consists in having individuals go into a shelter in place. It was too risk in having people run straight to the south immediately. It would have caused many more causalities if they did not listen to use. We told them to cover the North, East and West exits of the building. The south exit was insecure for an escape route just in case. We helped them figure out how to identify the MVs and what type of weapons to use to depend on yourself. It’s like the Hunger Games movie, Katniss Everdeen had experience with the crossbow which helped her to survive. We ask the people to use a weapon that they were experiencing with. Doesn’t matter if it was a gun, hammer, or baseball bat. As long they knew how to use it. We had a group of individuals travel at night to Camp Williams for protection. A better way to stay undetected from the MVs.

 

How did the infection end?

            The firearm on I-80 helped slow down the infection rate. Once we got to Camp Williams the army sent troops to kill the MVs. We couldn’t finish them off without the army help. After several days. We were able to kill every single zombie and made sure of it. Your mother and I after everything eventually left Salt Lake and came here. We didn’t want to live in the area… too much bad memories of everything that had happened. Your mother doesn’t like to talk about it. Don’t tell her I told you. It’s a secret between you and me.
